Airtel customers will be the first to enjoy a new set of SIM lines with the prefixes 0100, 0101 and 0102.
The Government, through the Communication Authority of Kenya (CAK), launched the new prefixes in April 2019.
The then CAK director general, Francis Wangusi, said that factors that led to the rollout include; the growing number of customers, need for better access to mobile internet services, and technological advancements.
In the April rollout, Airtel was issued with three million new numbers while Safaricom was issued with two million new numbers.
The Authority added that the prefixes would serve to curb the increasing demand for sim cards, enabling registration of over 100 million sim cards.
Airtel, which boasts of close to 13.3 million subscribers, has also said that the new numbers will be 4G enabled, making internet accessibility quite fast.
