Airtel Money will collaborate with the Moja Expressway Company, the Chinese firm that manages the Nairobi Expressway, to introduce the mobile money service as a payment option for toll fees.
- Over 70,000 motorists using the 27.1-kilometre expressway on a daily basis will be able to easily and conveniently pay for their exit toll fees using Airtel Money.
- The addition of Airtel’s mobile money service adds to several ways motorists can pay for tolls on the road, which also include cash, an MTC card or Electronic Toll Collection (ETC) service.
- Airtel has been mobilising its efforts to popularise its services and boost its competitive ability in the Kenyan market where it still lags behind.
“We remain committed to providing our customers with a seamless and convenient experience, and this partnership will help us achieve that goal,” Anne Kinuthia-Otieno, MD Airtel Money, said.
The second-largest Telco in Kenya plans to rejuvenate its fortunes in the mobile money market after the Communications Authority of Kenya (CA) reported in October that the service grew to 6.6% from 5.1% in market share – a notable gleam of expansionary hope.
The new partnership comes one week after Airtel inked a deal with giant retailer, Naivas, which would enable its customers to deposit and withdraw cash in all the 109 branches of the retailer.
