Attorney General Githu Muigai has appointed former banker Carol Musyoka to chair the board of directors of the newly formed Business Registration Service Board.

The board is a new independent body tasked with administering laws relating to incorporation, registration, operation and management of companies, partnerships and firms. The registrar of companies under the State Law Office previously performed the function.

The appointment that begins on January 4 will extend for three years.

Ms Musyoka is an experienced hand at the board level. In September she was appointed to the EABL board as a non-executive director.

She also sits on other boards including British American Tobbacco and SOS Children’s Villages. She recently quit the TransCentury board.
The Business Daily columnist holds a masters degrees in law from Cornell University.

She has experience in the finance industry, having served as the chief operating officer of K-Rep Bank, corporate director at Barclays Bank and as Citibank Kenya’s corporate manager.

Ms Musyoka’s appointment comes three months after President Uhuru Kenyatta signed the Business Registration Act 2015 into law.

The new law is meant to make the process of registering companies simple and fast as the country seeks to raise its credentials as an attractive business destination.

The new board will also consist of the AG and PS fro Trade, Devolution and planning and the National Treasury.
