Data experts from across Africa will gather in Nairobi next week to discuss pressing issues and foster collaboration in advancing data protection frameworks for the continent.
The 9th Network Of Africa Data Protection Authorities conference aims to increase awareness among the public and facilitate informed discussions on the vital subject of data protection.
“The 9th NADPA AGM in Kenya presents a unique opportunity to showcase Kenya’s unwavering dedication to data protection, it brings together experts from public and private sector, civil society, NGO, and development partners to share experiences and deliberate on advancing trends in personal data protection landscape,” Emmanuel Kimeu, the secretary of ICT in the Ministry of Information, Communication, and The Digital Economy said.
According to Kimeu, bringing stakeholders from the technology and data protection sector will present an opportunity to strengthen the implementation of robust data protection frameworks.
“This conference will facilitate data flows across Africa, to spark partnership, collaboration and strengthen best practices in data protection,” Immaculate Kassait, Kenya’s Data Commissioner, said.
In promoting international cooperation and to ensure compliance in data protection, Kenya, through ODPC applied and joined the Network of Data Protection Authorities (NADPA-RAPDP) on May 2021. Niger holds the NADPA-RAPDP Presidency, and Angola holds the position of 2nd Vice -President.
Kenya’s Data Commissioner was elected as First Vice-President of the NADPA-RAPDP Council effective August, 2023.
