The Africa Fintech Summit (AFTS) is set to hold its 9th edition in Washington DC, USA, on April 12, 2023. The summit will bring together top regulators, policymakers, financial and technology industry executives, fintech founders, leading innovators, investors, and government representatives from across the globe. The event, which represents over $4.5bn in private equity and venture capital funding, is aimed at promoting financial technology growth in Africa and providing stakeholders with an opportunity to share knowledge, explore trends, and discuss the future of fintech in Africa.
The AFTS takes place bi-annually, in April in Washington, D.C., on the sideline of the World Bank/IMF Spring Meetings, and each November in a different African city. The most recent November 2022 edition held in Cape Town had 532 in-person and 900+ virtual delegates from 53 countries including government representatives, entrepreneurs, fintech founders, investors, DFIs, bank executives, policymakers, and corporate influencers from over 35 countries.
Fintech Collaboration
According to Zekarias Amsalu, Co-Founder of AFTS, “Increased collaboration between fintech founders, strategic industry leaders, diasporan investors, as well as global regulators, is essential to unlocking the potential of fintech in Africa, financial inclusion, and innovation capital in the eruptive African fintech ecosystem.” The theme of the upcoming summit is “Globalization of African tech,” and it will provide a platform for stronger US-Africa fintech investment ties and collaborations.
The #AFTSDC2023 summit will focus on various areas, including policy and regulation, US-Africa fintech connections, diaspora finance, remittance and cross-border payment, tech talent, the future of banking, mobile money growth and integration, embedded fintech, blockchain, powering African fintech via VC, intra-Africa trade and payment infrastructure, and financial inclusion.
The DC summit is supported by prominent fintech companies such as Flutterwave, Mojaloop Foundation, FonBank, and others. Interested parties can register for a limited number of delegate passes on the AFTS website.
