The African Development Bank (AfDB) has appointed Dr Josephine Waithira Ngure as country manager for the Southern Africa Regional Development and Business Delivery Office with effect from December 1.
The regional office is part of the bank’s new business approach meant to accelerate its business and development impacts across Africa. As country manager, a new senior executive position in the bank, Dr Ngure will be responsible for management of country resident representatives and portfolio operations in key countries and serve as the deputy to the director-general. She has worked at AfDB as Senior Financial Analyst (1997-2003), Principal Financial Analyst in the Public Utilities Department (2003-2006), Principal Financial Analyst (2007) and Principal Investment Officer for Financial Institutions. She brings extensive experience in infrastructure development, transport, telecoms, water and sanitation, finance and energy sectors.
She worked as a lecturer in finance at Trinity College, Oxford University, in 1997.
Prior to that she worked as a senior auditor for PricewaterhouseCoopers from 1991 to 1994, where she qualified as a Certified Public Accountant.
As the resident representative and country manager for Ethiopia, Dr Ngure manages a complex portfolio of $1.7 billion (Sh170 billion), comprising of national and regional operations.
