Githanji Waiguru has been named as the Managing Director of Absa Life Assurance Unit in Kenya. Absa Life Assurance is part of Absa Bank Kenya. The company provides a variety of insurance products such as, family covers, education policies, medical insurance, travel insurance, and motor and property insurance.
Mr Waiguru was serving as the acting Managing director and Principal Officer in the company since 6th July 2020. Prior to that, he was the Chief Operations Officer of the company.
In a notice to the public, Absa said, ” [Waiguru] has served with diligence and amazing resilience to ensure an outstanding performance of the Absa Life Assurance Kenya business in the midst of a pandemic and challenging business environment.”
Mr Waiguru is highly knowledgeable about the insurance business. He has worked in the finance and insurance industry in East Africa and Southern Africa in different capacities such as Chief Finance and Operations Officer Liberty Life Botswana, Stanlib Botswana, Absa Life Botswana, and Absa Life Assurance Kenya.
He is a University of Nairobi Bachelor of Commerce degree graduate and an MBA holder from the DeMontfort University UK. In addition, Mr Waiguru is a Certified Public Accountant of Kenya and a fellow of the Botswana Institute of Chartered Accountants.
The Insurance Regulatory Authority has approved Mr Waiguru’s appointment.
