Absa, Equity Group, KCB Group Mpesa Among 25 Most Admired Financial Brands in Africa in 2021

Three Kenyan brands, Equity Group, KCB Group, and Mpesa, have been ranked among the top 25 most admired financial brands in Africa according to a survey done by Geopoll, Kantar, and Brand Africa. The annual survey seeks to demonstrate brand preferences across the continent. This year’s study showed the resilience of top brands despite the difficulties caused by the covid19 pandemic.

Equity Group recorded the greatest improvement in the ranking, moving up six places to position 5 from position 11, after it acquired DRC’s Banque Commercial du Congo in December 2020. KCB Group moved down one place to position 13 while Mpesa remained in the same position 17 in the latest ranking.

Nigeria’s GTB was named the most admired financial brand in Africa in the 2021 GeoPoll survey, after strong financial performance and restructuring to attract digital customers. Nigeria based First Bank came in second position and South Africa’s Absa took the third position. Brands from South Africa, Nigeria, and Kenya dominated this year’s list of the top 25 most admired financial brands in Africa.

On the list of most admired African brands, the Dangote brand took the first position, followed by MTN and DStv. Only two Kenyan brands made it to the top 25 most admired brands list, Safaricom and Tusker Beer. Ethiopian companies like Anbessa, SoleRebels, and Ethiopian Airlines made it to the list.
