    Abdi Mohamed Assumes Office as CEO and MD of Absa Bank Kenya

    Following approval from the Central Bank of Kenya, Mr. Abdi Mohamed has assumed the position of CEO and Managing Director of Absa Bank Kenya Plc, effective 1 May 2023. The appointment was first announced in December following the exit of Jeremy Awori, who exited in October last year after a nearly 10-year stint.

    The Bank’s Board said they are excited to welcome Abdi back home and they are confident that his leadership and experience will be crucial as we continue to build on our current momentum to transform into a locally relevant and sustainable business that positively impacts all its stakeholders.

    “With expansive experience and a strong track record garnered over 28 years working in different capacities in Absa Group, Abdi’s leadership will be crucial as the bank continues to build on its current growth momentum to transform into a formidable customer-obsessed and sustainable business that positively impacts all its stakeholders.” The bank’s board said in a statement.

    Abdi Mohamed Profile

    Abdi Mohamed is a Kenyan with over twenty-eight (28) years’ of experience in the financial sector and has held various executive positions within Absa Group. Prior to his appointment, Abdi was the Managing Director, Absa Bank Tanzania, and acting Managing Executive for Retail and Business Banking Africa Regional Operations, Absa, a role that spans across multiple geographies within Africa.

    He has previously served as Chief Operating Officer for the Bank in Kenya. Other roles that he held within the organisation also include Retail & Business Banking Director in Kenya and Zambia, and as Operations Efficiency Manager, Barclays Global Retail & Commercial Banking (GRCB), London.

    Abdi Mohamed holds a Bachelor of Commerce (Hons) – Kenyatta University, Masters Business Administration (MBA) – Edith Cowan University and Advanced Management Programme (IMD Business School – Switzerland).

    Following Abdi’s appointment, Yusuf Omari, who has been serving as interim MD and CEO, resumes his role as Chief Finance Officer (CFO). Consequently, Moses Muthui, who has been serving as interim CFO also resumes his role as the Bank’s Chief Strategy Officer.
