Nairobi Securities Exchange(NSE) recorded an equity turnover of KSh 754 Million when trading ended at the bourse this Tuesday, compared to KSh 199 Million at the previous trading session, an increase of 278.8%
This is as investors react to impressive dividend payouts by leading commercial banks that have been posting solid financials for 2021 after a two-year slump.
At the close of business this Tuesday, the Banking Sector was the most active at the Nairobi bourse and moved shares worth KSh 530 Million, accounting for 70.265 of the day’s traded value.
Equity Group Holdings, which posted a 99% increase in net profit to KSh 40.1 billion in 2021, had its shares rise 0.98% to KSh 51.75 and moved 1.7 Million shares valued at KSh 88.7 Million.
KCB was the main feature in this sector, with 9 Million shares valued at KSh 403 Million, changing hands at between KSh 43.90 and KSh 45.00.
SCBK shares were up 2.52% to KSh 12.20 and moved 186,000 shares valued at KSh 26 Million
The NSE moved 18 million shares compared to 5 million shares at the end of the previous trading session.
The Derivatives Market registered activity in the KCB Single Stock Futures contract expiring on 16th June 2022, trading 15 contracts valued at KSh 676,000 at a price of KSh 45.08. This is against KCB’s closing price of KSh 44.00 in the spot market.
The day’s top price gainers were led by BK Group, which was up 8.73% to KSh 29.90, followed by Car&General, which was up 8.57% to KSh 76.00; Olympia Capital which rose 6.195 to KSh 2.23; Home Afrika, which was up 5.56% to KSh 0.38 and Umeme whose share price was up 3.925 to KSh 6.36.
The worst performers were led by Liberty, which declined by 8.81% to KSh 5.80, followed by BOC Kenya, which was down 5.88% to KSh 80.00; Sasini which slid 5,45% to KSh 18.29, WPP ScanGroup, which shed 2.43% to end the day at KSh 4.01 and Centum which lost 25 to end the day at KSh 12.25.
The NSE 20 Share Index shed 6.40 points to close at 1861.67, followed by NSE All Share Index(NASI), which was up 1.77 points to stand at 160.86. The NSE 25 Share Index gained 20.65 points to close the day at 3639.07.
Safaricom, the most capitalized at the bourse, moved 4.5 Million shares valued at KSh 165 Million between KSh 34.30 and KSh 37.00, accounting for 21.89% of the day’s traded value.
