Nairobi Securities Exchange(NSE) listed Kapchorua Tea Kenya Plc as the week’s top gainer when trading ended on 16th July 2021.
Kapchorua added 25.6% in investor wealth to close the week at KSh 98.00. The worst performer during the week was Crown Paints Kenya Plc, its shares at KSh 20.25 per share on Friday, a 23.00% drop from the previous week’s closing price.
The Nairobi bourse ended the week higher as stocks across the board gained, giving investors one of the highest weekly returns on the exchange.
NSE INDICES
A Weekly report by the Central Bank of Kenya shows that the benchmark NASI, as well as NSE 25 and the NSE 20 share price indices, increased by 1.8 per cent, 1.0 per cent and 1.3 per cent to 178.8 points and 1969.8 points, respectively, during the week ending July 15.
This is the highest NASI and NSE 20 share price indices since April 5, 2018, and July 20, 2020, respectively. Market capitalisation also increased by 1.2 per cent.
However, equity turnover and total shares traded declined by 2.7 per cent and 25.5 per cent, respectively, during the week.
Weekly Equity turnover on the bourse dropped by 32.44%, with a turnover of KSh 1.83 billion compared to the previous week’s KSh 2.71 billion.
There was a 32.38% drop in the volume of shares traded at the exchange to close the week at 56.25 million shares compared to the 83.18 million sold the prior week.
Safaricom Plc was the week’s prime mover with shares valued at KSh 855 million transacted.
During last week, Safaricom shares prices rose 3.27% rise to close the week on Friday at KSh 42.60 from the prior week’s closure of KSh 41.25.
The telco’s share price saw a boost after Ethiopia formally granted a nationwide operating license to Safaricom Telecommunications Ethiopia Plc.
The Banking Sector was second in activity with shares valued at KSh 781 million transacted which accounted for 42.70% of last week’s traded value.
Diamond Trust Bank Kenya closed the week 12.29% higher to KSh.66.25 with 5.2 million shares valued at KSh.306 million transacted.
Equity Group Holdings Plc traded 4.5 million shares valued at KSh.219 million and closed the week at KSh.48.55 per share.
KCB Group Plc was down 1.43% to KSh.44.85, moved 2.4 million shares valued at KSh.110 million.
