Kenya Revenue Authority(KRA) has said that it expects over five million taxpayers to file their annual income tax returns by the June 30th 2021, deadline.
According to Grace Wandera, the Authority’s Marketing and Communication Deputy Commissioner, an estimated 3.8 Million Kenyans had filed their returns by 20th June 2021, an increase of 20% compared to 3.1 Million over a similar period in 2020.
KRA is relying on a robust iTax platform to serve for taxpayers
She attributes this growth to a robust iTax platform, adding that the Authority still expects Kenyans to file their returns before the deadline expires.
She said the iTax system had been enhanced to make it easy for a taxpayer to file returns round the clock without any challenges.
The Authority has also extended when its service centres and contact centre are open to take care of the enormous traffic.
Figures from the Authority indicate that during this month alone, it has catered for over 230,000 customers, a growth of 71% for those seeking its services at the various Huduma and Service Centres.
The Tax Authority has already enhanced the iTax system in readiness for high traffic expected as Kenyans dash to file annual income tax return ahead of the deadline set for June 30th 2021.
Taxpayers are being encouraged to use KRA M-service App to minimise their visits to public places in light of the pandemic.
The taxman is also providing virtual assistance to those who may have issues while filing their returns.
Taxpayers began doing their returns for 2020 on 1st January 2021.
According to Wandera, all tax returns for local and foreigners, companies and partnerships, covering1 st January to 31st December 2020, should be filed before June 30th, 2021.
