Financial services provider in East and Central Africa, UAP Old Mutual Group is expecting rekindled interest in home insurance covers ahead of the Christmas season from homeowners who are preventing a holiday disaster.
UAP Old Mutual General Insurance managing director James Wambugu said that homeowners normally take covers around the festive season to protect their homes from losses associated with burglaries, burst piping, overflowing water amongst other perils.
“Most people go on holiday around this period, leaving their houses empty which increases the likelihood of burglaries. Additionally homeowners face potential losses from leaked pipes and other accidents since they are not present to take immediate action when such disasters occur,” said Mr. Wambugu.
The covers are also meant to protect against fires, riots, injuries and illness to staff employed to domestic staff.
Mr. Wambugu added that interest in travel insurance is also expected to pick around this period.
“This cover is ideal for those who plan to travel upcountry or outside the country and protects them from losses associated with misplaced luggage, cancelled trips and medical expenses in the unfortunate event of an accident.”
