Safaricom has appointed Christopher Kirigua and Winnie Ouko to its board of directors. Christopher will serve as an alternate director to the Cabinet Secretary, National Treasury and Planning. His appointment took effect on 10th February 2021.
Christopher Kirigua is the Director General of Public Private Partnerships at the National Treasury. Prior to that, he worked at the Standard Chartered Bank for more than 17 years until December 2020 when he joined the public service. While at Standard Chartered, he held several leadership roles including, Executive Director and Regional Head of Sustainable Finance for Africa and Middle East. Additionally, he was the co-chair of the Strategic Committee at the United Nations Global Investors for Sustainable Development.
Christopher holds a bachelors degree in Business Administration from the Roosevelt University, is an Emerging Leader Graduate from the Standard Chartered Bank and graduated from an Executive Development Programme at INSEAD Business School.
Winnie Ouko will serve as an independent non executive director at Safaricom. She is the Founder and Chief Executive Officer of Lattice Consulting, a Kenyan advisory company that provides corporate training and finance and strategy advisory to its clients. She has more than 25 years of experience in finance, strategy, and board roles.
Winnie once worked as an Associate Director at Standard & Poor’s in New York for three years and also worked with Price Waterhouse (Nairobi). She is a member of the board of Kenya Pooled Water Fund. She previously served on the board of Absa Bank Kenya in the Audit committee and the Risk and Compliance committee and as a Trustee for the Worldwide Fund for Nature. Winnie holds a Bachelor of Commerce degree from the University of Nairobi, an MBA from Cornell University US, and is a Certified Public Accountant of Kenya.
