The world bank has extended a KSh6.9 billion grant to the Ministry of Water, Sanitation and Irrigation to implement a conditional liquidity support grant program to provide short term liquidity support to water service providers.
The funding aims to enable the water service providers to maintain operations and service levels during the COVID-19 pandemic.
The funding facility will be managed by the water sector trust fund and the water services regulatory board.
The water service providers are expected to use the funds to finance maintenance requirements, pay for regulatory fees and execute emergency interventions to mitigate COVID-19 where necessary.
