Safaricom has unveiled new phone number prefixes starting with 0112, 0113, 0114, and 0115 to meet the increasing demand for its sim card lines.
The new phone numbers will be available at no cost, with customers only required to activate their lines with a top-up of KSh50 airtime after choosing the phone number they like.
The move is part of the company’s initiatives to mark 20 years since it was launched, with the new numbers available at all Safaricom shops, dealer outlets, and agents countrywide.
The unveiling of the new prefixes now enables the telco to have the capacity to add an additional 4 million customers to its network. As of now, the service provider has over 35 million customers and is the biggest player in the Telecom industry.
In February this year, the telco introduced sim cards with the 0110 and 0111 prefixes, targeting an additional 2 million customers, after exhausting the 07XX prefixes in 2019.
