Prince Muraguri, the Kenyan Wallstreet Resident Economist, recently presented a TEDx Talk on Internet-nomics. The TEDx Talk, which is a program of local, self-organized events that bring people together to share a TED-like experience, was held at The Aga Khan Academy in Mombasa in March 2020 as part of the TEDxYouth events.
Prince themed his TED Talk on using the Economics concepts of Demand and Supply to provide insights on how internet users can optimize their internet experience. The talk provides practical tips on how internet users can create an efficient and purposeful internet experience.
The Demand Side is pegged on how internet content consumers can optimize the time they spend on the internet by focusing their limited time on consuming content that is urgent and important, as demonstrated using the Eisenhower Matrix. Additionally, internet content consumers need to align their internet content consumption on insightful content rather than passive content.
The Supply Side is pegged on how internet content suppliers can optimize their supply of internet content by turning their likes into livelihoods. This is especially pertinent in this new decade as it is much easier to start a business using the internet than has ever been the case in previous decades.
Overall, the TED Talk is a call to self-reflection and conscious awareness on how we spend our time on the internet, and hopes to address the growing concerns of internet addiction, especially among young people, while creating a possibility of income-generation and livelihood creation via the online space.
