Morintat Leparan has been appointed to head the National Oil Corporation after a rigorous recruitment process which involved 49 applicants.
The new executive will replace George Kubai who served as acting CEO for the past four months.
Morintat has a wealth of experience in the oil and gas sector having worked with McKay Advocates as an advisor in the oil, gas, energy and infrastructure business since 2015.
He lastly served as the country manager for Ethiopia and the Horn of Africa for D. Light Solar prior to his appointment.
During the recruitment process at NOC, he emerged as the best candidate among the six shortlisted for the job. Additionally, he was one of the three candidates shortlisted for the Managing Director role at Kenya Pipeline Company.
Morintat will be tasked with reviving the state corporation which has been struggling due to lack of funds. In November 2019, the company put up KSh566 million worth of assets for sale in an effort to stay afloat.
