The World Food Program (WFP) has received a $1 million voluntary contribution from the government of Russia.
WFP will work with Kenyan authorities to distribute the food supplies to communities in dire need.
Ambassador of the Russian Federation said the humanitarian aid contributes to Kenya’s quest for food security under the big four agenda.
Furthermore, the donation is part of Russia’s commitment to cooperate with the African nation in the post-Russia-Africa summit in Sochi.
The food supplies come as 3.1 million Kenyans are considered food insecure following prolonged drought experienced earlier in the year.
UN resident coordinator for Kenya, Mr Siddharth Chatterjee, welcomed the food supplies saying it reiterates the commitment to alleviate suffering from hunger.
Furthermore, Mr Siddharth said that the UN Kenya Team will continue to deliver the supplies. He pledged support for the government and all its partners to transform the country into a food-basket.
