Mumias Sugar Company sacked all employees upon being placed under receivership.
In a notice sent on 5th November 2019, Mumias Receiver manager declared all employment contracts redundant from the date of receivership that is 20 September 2019.
However, the embattled sugar miller, “shall engage the services of any employee on a temporary basis on mutually agreeable terms until the time when operations resume,” read part of the notice.
Furthermore, the receiver-manager noted that the firm will give priority to former staff when hiring the temporary staff to keep the company running.
The affected employees will be duly compensated, the statement said, “Any payment to the affected employees shall be dealt with in accordance with the provision of the law.”
