The Energy Regulatory Commission is contemplating to establish a localised tariff base, aimed at attracting more investors at areas with cheap generated power such as geothermal.
ERC Director General confirmed that the body is in talks with the Ministry of Energy and Petroleum to establish the base, a move that will incentivise manufacturers with cheaper power.
He further urged stakeholders in the manufacturing sector to focus on energy utilisation for optimum production through implementation of practices that will help reduce their energy expenses.
The localised tariff base incentive will ultimately boost the manufacturing industry and increase exports.
This was said when ERC awarded Certificate of Energy Management Compliance to three manufacturing firms in Kenya.
