The Central Bank of Kenya has announced the appointment of Dr Benson Akong’o Ateng, Margaret Kwengu Chemengich, Professor Jane Wanjiku Kabubo-Mariara and Humphrey Mugambi Munga to the Monetary Policy Committee.
The four who have served in different capacities previously in the economic and finance sector are expected to bring a wide range of experience and help in making informed policies in the banking sector, which will enhance MPC’s role in formulating monetary Policy.
Dr Benson Akong’o Ateng brings on board World Bank experience, as well as his experience in the in the commercial banking sector where he served as the Chair of a local lender.
Dr Margaret Chemengich who has served in various public sector positions ranging from Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Trade Industry and Tourism, director of statistics at Kenya National Bureau of Statistics (KNBS) and National Treasury as well as her experience from the Institute of Economic Affairs is also set to have an input in the MPC.
Professor Jane Wanjiku and Mr Humphrey Mugambi who come from the academia side, having served as Economic Professor and lecturer respectively among other experiences within the finance sector are also expected to offer invaluable input in the MPC.
The announcement comes only a few days after the Monetary Policy Committee (MPC) met on September 25, 2018, to review the outcome of its previous policy decisions and recent economic developments amid a backdrop of the economic growth prospects, and increased uncertainties in the global financial markets.
