Global Tea and Commodities whose brands include Kericho Gold and Bahari Chai has received Ksh 400 million financing from the International Finance Corporation in partnership with the Global Agriculture and Food Security Programme.
The company plans to increase packaging capacity at its factory in Kenya in addition to sourcing an additional 5,000 tonnes of tea from farmers and local factories directly and via auction. The company will also use the funds to expand its operations in Malawi by planting more macadamia trees, replanting existing coffee plantations and developing a coffee out-grower programme to support 3,300 smallholder farmers.
