Kenya’s Ministry of Tourism ministry has reduced the cost of travel to Mombasa and Malindi for tourists as part of a strategy to revive the ailing tourism sector.
Newly appointed CS for Tourism Mr Najib Balala said the chartered plane waiver only applies to Moi International Airport, Mombasa and Malindi Airport and would be effectective as from January 2016 to June 2018. The CS waived landing fees for charter airlines and offered a Sh3,060 per person charter flight subsidy but the plane must be 80% occupied.
“One of the challenges we face in stimulating coastal tourism recovery is the relatively high costs experienced by our visitors. It is a simple fact that it is often cheaper to go somewhere else,” Najib Balala said in a statement.
