Tanzania’s annual inflation rate rose for the seventh straight month to 4.9% in October of 2022, from 4.8% in the prior month. A higher inflation rate than that was recorded in October 2017 at 5.1 percent, according to the available official data.
It was the highest rate since October of 2017, mainly underpinned by soaring prices of food & non-alcoholic beverages (9.1% vs 8.3% in September); transport (6.1% vs 7.9%) and furnishings & household equipment (4.2% vs 3.6%).
Some food and non-food products that indicated an increase in price are rice by 4.3%, finger millet by 0.6%, maize by 2.0%, maize flour by 3.2%, chicken by 0.7 %, fresh fish by 0.4%, fresh seafood by 8.9%, dry seafood by 1.0%, fruit by 0.7%, beans by 3.9%, soy by 5.1%, gas by 5.1%, and wood by 2.6%.
On a monthly basis, consumer prices in Tanzania were flat, after increasing by 0.1% in the prior month.
