One of Kenya’ leading retail chain, Tuskys Supermarket has announced that its ongoing Internship recruitment in the Western region in partnership with KCB Foundation has attracted over 7,000 applicants all fighting to get the limited slots.
According to Tuskys HR Manager, the recruitment drive attracted even those with special needs; For instance in the Kisii region where 28-year-old Lenah Mwelu and 25-year-old Linet Moraa are among the candidates who turned up for the interview, both have hearing impairments.
‘I do not consider this impairment as a limitation. We lead normal lives,’ Lenah said through the sign language interpreter, whom they came with for the sake of the interview, Gladys Kerubo.
Lenah is a mother to a 9-month-old baby boy with a certificate in Food and Beverages from Karen Technical Training College, Lenah, who has been jobless since completing college in 2014, says her desire is to secure a chance to work at Tuskys to enable her raise her child and support her husband, who is not too stable financially.
Linet Moraa on the other hand says she is honoured to be called for an interview and she hopes she will secure a chance to join Tuskys so that she can get practical skills and be her own boss one day.
‘I previously worked as a cook at Kisii University. I am as capable as anyone else. A chance to work for Tuskys will enable me fend for my siblings because I am the breadwinner,’ she said through the interpreter.

Tuskys HR Manager in charge of Training and Planning Mr. Simon Wamburu says giving an opportunity to all despite any impairments is vital.
The internship program remains one of Tuskys’ Corporate Social Responsibility initiatives incepted in October 2015 and has so far given training and employment opportunities to more than 2500 youths.
Tuskys is currently recruiting in Kisii, Kakamenga and Kisumu, where over 7,000 applications were received from the region.
