The Lake Turkana Wind power project is set to be connected to the country’s electricity grid injecting another 310Mw after all the 365 turbines are connected to the grid by the end of this month.
According to the director of the wind power project, Rizwan Fazul, the project which has continuously raised eyebrows due to contractor’s withdrawal among other challenges is currently at the commissioning stage .
Mr Fazul further disclosed that the project was complete by the 27th September as planned and all that remains is the injection of the power to the national grid which must be done in bits to avoid unplanned power interruptions in the country.
He said that Kenya will not be fined a Sh 1 billion for a month lateness deadline to complete the Lake Turkana Wind Power project.
This even as the government works to ensure the last mile connectivity dream is achieved with the launch of the second phase expected to reach over 2.5 million households and connect them to the national grid.
