Supplier moves to court, wants Uchumi winded up

A supplier by the name Ceccagnoli Italiano Limited has gone to court and wants Uchumi Supermarkets winded up and its assests sold so as to recover the amount Uchumi owes the firm.
The move comes at a time when Uchumi has closed down its five Kenyan outlets and 253 employees sent home. However, The Industrial Court on Tuesday stopped Uchumi from declaring the 253 staff redundant pending hearing and determination of the case.
In a notice published in the local dailies, the firm is calling for others owed by Uchumi to join the petition and lodge their claims at the High Court of Kenya before the hearing is heard on April 22, 2016 at the Milimani commercial courts in Nairobi.
